Hello Elizabeth!

That doesn't look difficult... other than getting the eyes right...

  • 1 pencil with eraser
  • 1 paintbrush
  • 1 bottle of varnish
  • 2 round wooden beads
  • 2 oval wooden beads
  • 2 brass headpins
  • 2 earring thingies (clips or hooks)
  • 2 micron pens - brown and black
  • 4 gold seed beads
  • 8 bottles of paint: cobalt blue, yellow, pink, white, black, silver, gold, tapestry wine

Fiddly, fiddly, fiddly painting! Even doing the all-over blue was harder than you might expect because I was holding the bead between two fingers and had to turn it every so often to get every corner and not get paint all over everything and not get fingerprints in my paintjob.

I discovered while painting the heads (I mixed too much skintone (pink with a dab of yellow) and painted my other set of heads while I was at it) that one doesn't have to sand the original finish off the wood beads for good paint adhesion which was nice because sanding was no fun at all.

If you paint about half the bead you'll have a nice reference for where the ears and other features go; just be sure there won't be any skin showing below their hairline otherwise you'll have to go back later and if the skintone was custom mixed...

Oooooh, shiny!

I used my size 005 Micron pens for detailing the eyes and Hawkeye's hair. Screencaps inform me that her clip is not, in fact, silver. Probably would be too shiny in a combat situation anyway. So I used a bit of gold and a bit of tapestry wine.

Hawkeye is apparently far more photogenic. It only took me about three tries to get a decent shot (okay, yes, I was photographing myself without a mirror...) and so many more to get a poorer one of Mustang...

About four hours total, not counting letting the paint and varnish dry. Don't forget to work in a well ventilated space! I guess this isn't a good instant gratification project, but a bit here and a bit there brought about a quite satisfying result, if I do say so myself.

(Also not counted: the hours I spent trying to figure out which scene I ought to reference for a title... XD )
