"Most everyone is king of their imaginary countries," said Edward. "Only someone like you would pretend to be anything else."
I scribbled the first draft of this back in 2011 and have never been thrilled with the words on paper. In fact, this is one of the projects where I like the idea more than I like any of my efforts on it too date. (Seriously. When I skip large chunks of the draft because I am So. Bored. you know it's BAD.) The goal was to go over the more memorable scenes and string them together again in an improved fashion and have another complete draft.
I have no idea if it worked or not. I have more words than draft #1 and scenes appear in #1 that didn't move over to #2 and #2 has a few different concepts. However, I feel like I did a lot of copy and paste from #1 into #2 so... technically... I did not type 60,000 words last month. (Even counting yet another shiny idea, on which I spent an enjoyable week's worth of time.) I'm very much in the melodramatic post-writing 'this is AWFUL' stage.
My biased analysis is the beginning is top heavy and the ending is flyaway light. The middle, where the character development was supposed to happen is nonexistent (unless I wrote it in one of the late night sessions when I have no idea what I'm doing and I hope it makes sense in the morning).
Speaking of late night sessions, that was when I was writing along and decided it would be a good idea to include the 'Should You Fight x' meme that floated around tumblr recently. XD
Back to the drawing board for this one.
