"So?" said Bobby. "There must have been someone who still thought like that—" he gestured vehemently at the image of a knight standing between a farm and an approaching dragon."—Otherwise we wouldn't be here at all! Civilization is built not by selfish ambition but on a foundation of people reaching out their hands to help one another. Selfish ambition tears it back down again and then it's patched by people who go out of their way to be self-less. What about the idea that the knights would be roasted alive in those tin suits? They still go out against the dragons."
Moriah had admitted before to her friend that she loved the tales of knights in shining armor. She wondered at Bobby's conviction, and played the devils advocate to draw him out further on historiosophy, hoping he remembered what'd she'd said before and wouldn't take her remark the wrong way. "Maybe they're just that stupid."
"No," said Bobby. He tucked his hands behind his back. "They're a symbol of faith when all looks black. That's what I want to do someday. I want to stand between someone else and darkness. And maybe look good while I'm doing it. That'd be okay too."

Excerpt: "“People tend to be unnerved when animals start talking. They either start crying out that it is some evil mischief and try to chase after you with fire and pitchforks, or they think it is some wonderful magic and want to keep you around for luck,” he explained. “Besides, people tend not to watch what they say around you if they think you cannot understand them, and they are also less likely to threaten you or demand answers from you. Though your mother came pretty close anyhow,” he added." *pokes unhappily*
