Hugh wasn't sure which route looked better to him. He'd been raised with a worldview touched by meliorism, believing evil was a temporary and passing shadow. Cynicism had yet to sink deep into his psyche and yet he had the uneasy feeling that in this case John's declaration that he would rather trust their fate to his own woodcraft and cunning than people was the more practical choice.
